  • This was the 2001st match in One-Day International cricket history.
  • This was the ninth match between these two sides. India have won all nine.
  • Gautam Gambhir (left handed batsman and leg break bowler) and Aavishkar Salvi (right handed batsman and right arm medium fast bowler) were making their debut for India. Now a total of 150 players have represented India in ODIs.
  • Khaled Mahmud was captaining Bangladesh for the first time in his career. He became seventh player to captain Bangladesh in ODIs.
  • At 31 years 136 days Khaled Mahmud became the oldest player to captain Bangladesh for the first time in a match. The previous record was held by Aminul Islam who was 30 years 101 days old when he led Bangladesh for the first time against India at Mohali on 14-05-1998.
  • Khaled Masud, with the catch of Gautam Gambhir, completed his 50 dismissals behind the stumps (41 catches & 9 stumpings). By taking 58 matches to accomplish this feat, Masud became the second slowest (along with New Zealander Ian Smith) after New Zealander Adam Parore who took 76 matches for his 50 dismissals.
  • Yuvraj Singh (102*) scored his maiden hundred in his 71st match. His previous highest was an unbeaten 98 against Sri Lanka at Colombo SSC on 01-08-2001.
  • At 21 years 89 days, Yuvraj became the second youngest Indian after Vinod Kambli to score a hundred. Kambli scored his maiden hundred against England at Jaipur on 18-01-1993, the day he turned 21.
  • Yuvraj’s maiden hundred came after playing 60 innings. Only Sunil Gavaskar (100) and Sachin Tendulkar (75) have taken more innings before scoring their maiden hundreds.
  • Yuvraj’s hundred came off just 84 balls which is the joint seventh fastest hundred by an Indian in ODIs. Incidentally this was the third fastest hundred against Bangladesh after West Indian Brian Lara (in 45 balls in 1999) and Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya (in 72 balls in 1997).
  • The 92 run- partnership between Yuvraj Singh and Ajit Agarkar was the highest for the seventh wicket for any side against Bangladesh. The pair obliterated the previous best of 57 runs (unbeaten) between West Indians Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Nehemiah Perry at this venue on 09-10-1999. Incidentally India’s previous highest seventh wicket stand against Bangladesh was a paltry 1 run (unbeaten) between Nayan Mongia and Hrishikesh Kanitkar at this same venue on 10-01-1998.
  • Tapash Baishya’s figures of 3 for 65 are the best for Bangladesh against India. He bettered Khaled Mahmud’s 2 for 12 at Mumbai on 25-05-1998.
  • Aavishkar Salvi became the eleventh Indian bowler to take a wicket in his very first over in ODIs when he dismissed Mehrab Hossain off his fifth legitimate ball (sixth in all).
  • The partnership of 22 runs between Khaled Mahmud and Mohammad Rafique was Bangladesh's best for the eighth wicket against India. The pair obliterated the previous best of paltry 10 runs between Khaled Mahmud and Hasibul Hossain at Mohali on 14-05-1998.
  • Zaheer Khan (4-19) achieved his best bowling figures in his 68th match. His previous best was the 4-42, which he has achieved on three occasions -- against Zimbabwe at Sharjah on 26-10-2000 and at Bulawayo on 27-06-2001 and against New Zealand at Centurion on 14-03-2003.
  • Bangladesh's total of 76 equalled their lowest total in ODIs. They were dismissed at the same score against Sri Lanka at Colombo SSC on 05-08-2002.
  • The total was also the lowest ever made against India in ODIs. India had dismissed Pakistan for 87 (in 32.5 overs) at Sharjah on 22-03-1985.
  • Yuvraj Singh won his fifth Man of the Match award in the 71st match.
