- Hasan Tillakaratne was playing his 200th match. He became seventh Sri Lankan and 34th player overall to do so.
- Sanath Jayasuriya was playing his 300th ODI. He became second Sri Lankan and only the sixth player after Pakistans Wasim Akram (356), Indias Mohammad Azharuddin (334), Australias Steve Waugh (325), Indias Sachin Tendulkar (314) and Sri Lankas Aravinda de Silva (308).
- Jayasuriya recorded 21st duck of his career. Now only Pakistans Wasim Akram (28) and fellow teammate Romesh Kaluwitharana (22) have aggregated more ducks in a career than Jayasuriya.
- The duck was eighth for Jayasuriya as Sri Lankas captain. Only one batsman- former teammate Arjuna Ranatunga (10) has aggregated more ducks in a career than Jayasuriya as a captain.
- The catch of Sangakkara was Grant Flowers 77th in the field. He has now equalled Alistair Campbells Zimbabwean record of most catches in a career as a fieldsman.
- The wicket of Tillakaratne was 50th for Heath Streak as Zimbabwean captain. He became first player from Zimbabwe and 11th overall to do so.
- This was Zimbabwes first win over Sri Lanka in three years. They had last beaten Sri Lanka at Harare on 19-12-1999 (by six wickets).
- Grant Flower won Man of the match award for the 11th time in his career. He has now won most such awards for Zimbabwe. Grant was earlier at level with brother Andy with ten awards.
