When Australian captain, Steve Waugh reached 59 during his magnificent knock of 115, he overtook Sunil Gavaskar's tally of 10,122 (ave.51.12) in 125 Tests, and moved into the second place in terms of run-aggregate in Test cricket.

At the end of his knock, he took his aggregate to 10,179 runs (ave.49.65) in 159 Tests and his tally is exceeded only by Allan Border (A) - 11,174 runs (ave.50.56) in 156 Tests.

Steve Waugh's 115 was his 30th century in Test Cricket. He became the first Australian and the third in Test cricket to post 30 centuries in Test Cricket, joining the two Indians - Sunil Gavaskar (34) and Sachin Tendulkar (31). Steve Waugh also surpassed Sir Donald Bradman's feat of 29 centuries.

Waugh's 115 was his seventh hundred against West Indies - the most by an Australian against West Indies, bettering Doug Walters' six centuries in just 9 Tests.

Waugh has now 13 centuries to his credit in 48 Tests as Captain. Former Australian captain, Greg Chappell, had also recorded 13 centuries in 48 Tests and their feats of 13 centuries as Captain have been exceeded only by Australia's Allan Border (15 in 93 Tests), Don Bradman (A) - 14 in 24 Tests and Clive Lloyd (WI) - 14 in 74 Tests.

Waugh, during his innings of 115, also completed his 2000 runs against West Indies. He is the second Australian after Allan Border to do so. Waugh's run-aggregate of 2106 runs (ave.48.98) in 31 Tests is the best for Australia against West Indies, obliterating Allan Border's tally of 2,052 runs (ave.39.46) in 31 Tests.
