Introduction
Realizing the need for doing something about the neglected state of statistics and scoring pertaining to Indian cricket, an Association of Cricket Statisticians and Scorers of India (ACSSI) was formed in 1987. The aim of the association was to bring the members of the association together, and do serious research on Indian cricket, both past and present. The association served its objectives quite well in the initial years. However, due to a number of reasons, it eventually became almost defunct.I have taken upon myself to revive the efforts made in those years by forming a new association titled as The Indian Association of Cricket Statisticians and Scorers (IACSS). I appeal to you to enroll as a member of this association as soon as possible.

Aims

The short-term aims of IACSS would be as follows:- Provide one-stop accurate information about Indian Domestic, Test and Limited Overs International cricket statistics
- Create a community of cricket statisticians, scorers, as well as people who are simply interested in these aspects even remotely
- Bring out four quality journals in a year, which would provide research-based information not available/accessible easily elsewhere
- Help the scorers in adopting standard practices of scoring so as to minimize errors in their work
- Bring out books containing rare information about Indian cricket and cricketers and make them available to members either free or at the cheapest possible price
- Bring out a yearbook every year containing all the scorecards, statistics and records of all domestic matches and make it available to members either free or at the cheapest possible price
- Make this a highly professional body of cricket statisticians, scorers and those interested in the game of cricket by providing value for money

- £4 per year for overseas members

Plans

Based on the response received, we would like to bring out our inaugural issue of the quarterly journal in the first week of January 2004, and then one each in the subsequent quarters. However, unfortunately if we do not receive a good response, your money would be returned before end-January 2004.

Cost analysis

The costs analysis tells us that if we want to bring out a journal containing rare information and members articles based on original interest every quarter, the following costs have to be thought of (after comparing the quotes of many vendors):Desktop Publishing (DTP), Typesetting, and Printing: Rs 215 per page for a print run of 400 to 600 copies - Page size 18 (Half of A4)
30 such pages = Rs 215 x 30 | Rs 6450 |
Cover page printing | Rs 1200 |
Cutting and binding/stapling | Rs 500 |
Total printing costs | Rs 8150 |
Clearly, if we are to bring out four such journals every year, then we must have funds of Rs 32,600 for this alone. Add to this the overheads of packing and postage, and we will realize the importance of getting as many members as possible. In fact, a rough estimate of cost analysis can be done as follows (assuming Rs 9000 as the cost of the journals for one quarter, including packing and postage).
Number of members | Cost of one journal per member |
100 | 90 |
200 | 45 |
300 | 30 |
400 | 22.50 |
500 | 18 |
600 | 15 |
We can clearly see a dramatic reduction in the unit costs with every increase in the print run. This would also mean more funds available to the association, in order to start working on better plans.
