Born at Westminster, London, 17th January 1861.
Died at Farrochmore Hill, Achnacarry Forest, Loch Arkaig, Fort William, Scotland, 18th September 1886.
The eldest son of William Henry Walter, the 6th Duke of Buccleuch, of Dalkeith House, near Edinburgh. He was educated at Eton and went up to Christ Church College, Oxford. He played three times for the MCC in first-class matches 1881-85.
In 1884 he was created the Earl of Dalkeith. He died at the age of 25 when he accidentally shot himself whilst deer-stalking.
In the 1881 Census he is living at Eildon Hall House, Melrose, Roxburgh, Scotland, with his mother and father, William H.W.M.D.Scott, Earl of Dalkeith, Knight Lieutenant of Dumfriesshire and J.P., and his mother Louisa Jane Scott, Countess of Dalkeith. Walter H.M.D.Scott, Lord Eskdaill, is aged 20 and an undergraduate at Oxford. His two sisters are Lady Katherine M.D. aged 6 and Lady Constance M.D. aged 4 and his two brothers the Hon.Herbert M.D. aged 8 and the Hon. Francis M.D. aged 1. There is a governess and nineteen domestic servants.
