LACEY, Francis Eden.
Amateur.
Born at Wareham, Dorset, 19th October 1859.
Died at Sutton-Veny House, near Warminster, Wiltshire, 26th May 1946.
The son of W.C.Lacey, he was educated at Sherborne and going up to Caius College, Cambridge, where he represented his University at cricket, winning a blue in 1882. He also won a blue for soccer. He first played for Hampshire in 1880 and played in fifty first-class matches between then and 1897, thirty-three of them for Hampshire, being captain of that county 1888-93. He was admitted as barrister at Inner Temple in 1889. From 1898 until 1926 he was the Secretary of the M.C.C., and in 1926 he was created Knight for his services to cricket. He was President of Hampshire 1927-28.
In the 1881 Census he is recorded as a student undergraduate of Caius College, aged 21, and in residence at the College.
