John Davies had a highly successful career with the Midland Bank, rising to the position of manager. The former pupil of Pontypridd County Boys School, played once for Glamorgan in 1952, scoring 11 and 0 against Worcestershire at Cardiff Arms Park.

The right-handed batsman and leg-break bowler played club cricket for Pontypridd, Ludlow and the Forty Club, in addition to representing Herefordshire.
