Brief profile of Herbie Baxter
by Dr.A.K.Hignell

Player:HW Baxter

Herbie Baxter had a fine record in League cricket with Swansea either side of the Great War, and in 1920 he was appointed as their captain. It was an eventful summer for the right-handed batsman as he also made his Minor County debut for Glamorgan, playing against Carmarthenshire at Llanelli and making a well composed 56.

Baxter subsequently made one first-class appearance for Glamorgan in 1921, and he also served on the county`s committee, where his business contacts were invaluable as the club tried to strengthen their financial reserves following their elevation into first-class cricket.
