SHOESMITH, Joseph.

Born at Kemp Town, Brighton, Sussex, 17th June 1859.
Died at Brighton, Sussex, 9th April 1901.
He played just the one first-class match, for Sussex against Yorkshire at Bramall Lane, Sheffield, in 1881. Little is known of this man.
In the 1881 Census he is shown as a professional cricketer, aged 21, living with his parents at 2 Eastern Quadrant, Brighton, Sussex. His father is William, aged 46 born at Lewes, Sussex, a baker muffin and crumpet maker, and his mother Alice, aged 50 born at Pembroke, Wales. Joseph has four sisters Alice aged 19, Ruth aged 17, Lydia aged 16, and Esther aged 14. All are born in Brighton and Ruth and Lydia are school teachers. There is one domestic servant.
