Lancashire 1869-82
Born 16.3.1846 Manchester.
Died 23.6.1919 Marylebone, London.
 
Educated at Rossall, which he entered in 1855 and left 1858 and Aldenham. He was not in the eleven whilst at school. He lived in Whalley Range, Manchester, and played his cricket with the Cheetham Hill Club. He was described as a merchant in Parker Street, Manchester, which he still was in 1905, although he now resided in Southport. 
He played his first match for Lancashire against Sussex at Brighton on 16th and 17th August 1869, when he opened the innings scored 6 and 4, and took a catch. He played for the county on seven further occasions up to 1882 without any great impact. He also played for the Gentlemen of Lancashire against the Gentlemen of Cheshire in 1873, scoring 16 and also , in 1879 and 1880, against Uppingham Rovers. 
Cheshire must have been impressed for he played twice for them, in 1874 and 1875, scoring 96 runs in his two innings, with a top score of 86. 
In 1888 he was elected a member of the M.C.C., and for many years he managed the Sussex Schools Tours. He was appointed to the committee of that Club in 1913. 
He was father of the Rev.Campbell Blethyn Hulton (MCC 1903) and John Meredith Hulton (MCC 1903-05). 
At the time of the 1881 Census he was living at the Cedars, College Road, Withington, aged 35 a merchant (house trade), with his wife Florence, aged 27 born Salford, and two sons Blythia (sic) aged 3 and Adam R. aged 2. There are four domestic servants.
