Bacup sign young all rounder
by Nigel Stockley - March 13th

Player:CP Simpson

Bacup have signed Queensland all rounder Chris Simpson. The 22 year-old is a right handed batsman who also bowls off spin, having been converted from a medium pacer.

A member of the Australian Cricket Academy, Simpson made his First-class debut in the final match of the 2002-3 season against New South Wales. Since then he has scored 200 runs at 18.2 and taken 6 wickets at 60.3. After batting low in the order, Simpson gradually worked his way up to opener following his two high profile innings of 118 and 81 for Queensland Academy against a Victoria 2nd XI containing Shane Warne in February.

The young Queenslander has a hard act to follow in Shaun Young and before that former Queenslander Adam Dale, who recommended Simpson to Bacup, but he has played on these shores before for Forfarshire in the Scottish League at the age of 18.

Simpson is curently playing for Queensland against Victoria in the Pura Cup Final in Melbourne.
