Match report Glam v Lancs totesport League 2004
by Neil Adams

Scorecard:Glamorgan v Lancashire

Summary

Glamorgan captain Robert Croft struck a superb century to steer Glamorgan to 5 wicket victory, and claim the division one title. In front of a packed house at Colwyn Bay, Lancashire were unfortunate to lose the toss and face the unenviable task of batting in damp overcast conditions. Run accumulation was notoriously difficult. Without being disrespectful, it came as no surprise to find the visitors at 62 for 4 in the 18th over. Valiant resistance from Mongia and Schofield enabled Lancashire to post a score of 218. Chapple chipped in with a 22 ball 32 including 2 sixes.

Despite losing Ian Thomas in the 3rd over, conditions had noticeably eased enabling Croft to strike 11 boundaries from his first 15 scoring strokes. Once ahead of the required run rate, Glamorgan eased their way to 74 for 1 in the 11th over. Wharf and Powell were both dismissed within the space of 11 balls to offer brief hope of a Lightning victory. However, Maynard and Croft added 121 for the 4th wicket to steer the Dragons to the brink of success. Hemp and Dale saw Glamorgan home with 28 balls to spare. The crowd invaded the pitch and the Welsh voices sung loud and long into the evening.
