Match report Lancs v Surrey totesport League 2004
by Neil Adams

Scorecard:Lancashire v Surrey

Summary

Lancashire secured second place the totesport division one table courtesy of a comfortable and convincing 48 run victory over Surrey. With minor exceptions, the entire team all contributed to a first class all round display against a Surrey side who were already relegated before the start of play. Adam Hollioake's final performance for Surrey ended with a disappointing performance with both bat and ball (Just 12 runs and 3 overs for 27 runs). He received a standing ovation as he walked back to the Old Trafford pavilion.

Lancashire recovered from a slightly shaky start thanks to contributions from Chilton, Law and Schofield. One sensed a score of 244 under lights on a chilly evening would prove too much for the Lions. Benning and Newman scored freely with the fielding restrictions in place against the fading light, but this merely flattered to deceived any visiting supporters. Surrey eventually lost their final wicket in the 41st over still 49 runs away from victory. They face the drop to division two in the one day game in 2005 - a feeling Lancashire might share, but in the four day arena.
