Summary of day 3

15 wickets fell on the 3rd day of this county championship encounter to suggest that a draw might not be the only outcome. Having dismissed Kent for just 266 on the stroke of tea, Lancashire batted themselves into trouble, closing on 70 for 5, still 37 runs away from avoiding the follow on. If Lancashire surpass 1117 runs on the fourth morning, the draw will once again become the most likely outcome. Unfortunately, 7 points will not be of any real used in the fight to beat the drop. Earlier in the day, Gary Keedy finished with 4 for 62, but was under used in the opening session (Just the customary 1 over before lunch - cricket by numbers!), while Key scored 52 and Walker 61. Sutcliffe (5) chopped on in the 7th over (23-1), Mal Loye (4) rocked back to play a cut stroke in the 12th over but lost his off stump (38-2), Chilton (26) was caught by Fulton at mid wicket (47-3) and Hooper received a sharply turning ball from Patel and failed to score (47-4). Haynes batting at number 6 (Well above his capability level) was caught by Dennington at point for nought (50-5). Chapple and Mongia steered Lancashire to 70 for 5 at close. The latter player holding an astounding diving boundary edge catch to remove Loudon in the afternoon session.
