Summary of day 3

Not for the first time this season, Lancashire removed the opposing teams' top order, but then failed to blast away the middle and later order batsmen. Consequently, any chance of enforcing the follow on disappeared shortly before the tea interval. Dominic Cork bowled a top quality spell (4 for 49) from the City end before lunch, but was completely overlooked in the crucial opening phase of the second session - heavens knows why Lancashire elected to employ the services of Andrew Crook on debut for eleven consecutive overs at such an important stage of the season. Worcestershire finally opted to declare 51 runs behind Lancashire after collecting 4 batting points of their own. By the close of play, the visitors had reached 58 for 0. One fancies Lancashire will be returning to New Road next season.
