The meteoric rise of Mohammad Aamer has come as little surprise to many who have followed the young left armer’s career. Although he was a regular in the younger age groups and had been demolishing sides in domestic cricket, his real test came when he was thrown into the deep end at the 2009 T20 World Cup.

Aamer succeeded in playing every game of the tournament and played a crucial role in leading Pakistan to the title, including a dream opening over to Dilshan in the final. Speaking exclusively to PakPassion.net, Aamer’s manager spoke of the 17 year old Gujjar Khan bowler’s excitement at competing at another World Cup. "He is really looking forward to it and hopes Pakistan has a fully fit squad."

With international teams playing more T20 cricket and players beginning to accept the potential of this form of the game, the competition has heated up. While the previous two world cups have been won by teams from the sub continent, Australia and South Africa are looming as the favourites in the West Indies. "Aamer feels that there are a lot of sides playing excellent T20 cricket at the moment" his manager stated.

Aamer who has played 8 test matches, had been hampered by a groin injury in the recently concluded series in Australia. His tour was cut short after the second ODI. Two months on the good news is "Aamer is currently fully fit and recovered from the groin injury."

In the recently concluded RBS Cup, Aamer represented Rawalpindi Rams for two games and "felt no reaction to the injury he suffered in Australia". While many of the world’s international cricketers will be busy over the next few weeks with the IPL, Aamer is thankful for the break in cricketing fixtures. "He knows that he has a lot of time to rest and recover following a long international and domestic season leading into the T20 World Cup" his manager remarked.

Pakistani fans will be hoping the rest and rejuvenation will have him raring to go and back to his fiery best in the T20 World Cup group stage game against Bangladesh on 1st May.
