Robin Uthappa rode his luck and played a brutal knock (68 not out off 38 balls) that paved way for Bangaloreís fourth win in the DLF IPL3 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday night.

Dropped on 5 and 25, Uthappa murdered the Chennai attack and his assault pitch forked his side to a competitive total. Balajiís last over and the penultimate of the innings went for 24 when Uthappa biffed three sixes and a four. The final five overs of the innings fetched 67 runs as Uthappa went berserk.

Jacques Kallis dream run with the bat finally ended when the law of averages caught up with him. With Pandey looking woefully out of touch, Kallis had to do the early scoring and the South African made 19 off 17 balls before Balaji castled him.Dravid and Manish Pandey struggled to force the pace as Chennai bowlers especially Muralitharan kept them on a tight leash. Murali had a measure of Dravid bowling him for 14 and Pandeyís unconvincing knock ended when the batsman tried to break the shackles by slogging Murali but ended in giving a tame catch to Raina at mid on. Kohli (24) added 47 runs with Uthappa for the fourth wicket. Uthappa survived the two drops played a blistering knock and spoiled the figures of Ashwin and Balaji. Ashwin leaked 28 runs off his final two and Balaji gave 24 off his final as the last three overs produced a staggering 52 runs.

Chennaiís got off to a bad start with Praveen Kumar inducing Parthiv Patel to edge a delivery which curled away from the left hander and was caught by Boucher. Praveenís swing was complimented well by the pace of Steyn who touched the 150 kmh mark quite regularly. Hayden, held the mangoose bat back, and played a few forcing shots. Bailey, playing his first match in IPL looked like a cat on a hot tin roof, as both Steyn and Praveen Kumar sized him up with pace and swing respectively. Old warhorse Kumble's parsimonious spell made things rather difficult for the visitors. Baileyís didnít manage to hit a boundary off Kumble's three overs and Hayden desperately called for the mangoose bat. He struck three boundaries off Kallis and was looking dangerous when a brilliant piece of fielding by Dravid cut short Haydenís innings. Vinay Kumar ended Baileyís misery with a lovely leg cutter and Chennai was in dumps. The visitors needed 111 off the final 10 overs. But Raina, who was the only batsman who could have taken Chennai out of woods, fell slogging and M Vijay was snared by Kumble. Badrinath made a quickfire 31 off 17 balls but Chennai kept losing wickets and the writing was on the wall when Vinay Kumar yorked Morkel.
