Nelson say farewell to Garaghty by Nigel Stockley 16th October 2005

Paul Garaghty and Joe Scuderi both received special awards at Nelson's annual Presentation Night at Seedhill.

 

The 41 year-old Garaghty was presented with a framed photograph celebrating his achievements in his 26 year senior career which ended at Seedhill with his 91st half century in the final match of the season against East Lancs last month. Mike Bradley ran through the career of the club's most prolific amateur run scorer and the club also presented Garaghty with a silver tray.

 

The Nelson left hander forged a unique partnership with one time professional Joe Scuderi, with the two men sharing a league record 24 century stands, including the club's 2nd and 3rd wicket record stands, both against Todmorden. Only four players in the history of the Lancashire League have scored more runs than Paul Garaghty - Mike Ingham, Peter Wood, George Parker and Bryan Knowles and only Wood can better his average of 29.6 from 547 innings.

 

Scuderi also received a framed photograph celebrating his amateur batting record with his professional record from 1991 also included.

 

Nelson Chairman Milton Lord presented the senior awards and Granville Thompson did the junior honours.

 

At the conclusion of the presentation, the club band Shyster, including Joe Scuderi, Martin Heap and Garry Grimshaw, performed to a packed clubhouse.
