Andy Bairstow had a short but difficult First-class career. Despite his late father David being one of the foremost wicketkeepers of his generation, Andys cricketing skills were as a promising batsman who could keep if needed. As such, it was a surprise when Derbyshire (with Karl Krikken & Steve Griffiths both unavailable) handed the 19 year old the gloves for 2 Championship matches in 1995, considering both his youth and especially the fact that in club and second XI cricket he only kept occasionally. Bairstow never got close to First-class cricket again, and only very occasionally appeared in second XI fixtures after 1995, despite his youth.
