Australian captain Ricky Ponting, Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman and Olympic gold-medalist swimmer Giaan Rooney Friday urged cricketing fans to turn out en masse in green and gold at next week's first Ashes test in Brisbane to boost their team's chances. Ponting appealed to fans to cover up in the national colours at the Gabba and offer the home side a solid psychological advantage.

``England's Barmy Army will be out in numbers wearing their red and white, so I'm calling on our fans to get behind us by wearing our colours, green and gold, to the match," Ponting said. ``Seeing a stadium of green and gold when we take the field on day one will give us a huge boost," he said. Rooney backed Ponting's technicolour call to arms in her role as Cricket Australia's green and gold ambassador. "If you're heading to the game or enjoying the action from home, make sure you wear a splash of green and gold and get behind the Aussies," Rooney said. Jackman, best known as Wolverine in the "X-men" movies, chimed in, calling on fans to make a sartorial display of solidarity at the first Test. "Now that we're on home soil, let's create a huge advantage for the team and wear our green and gold colours with pride and ownership," said Jackman, who is producing a documentary about an Australian infiltrating the Barmy Army.
