Brief profile of Mayajaal Sports village Cricket ground
by Cricket Archive staff reporter

Ground:Mayajaal Sports Village, Chennai

DateLine: 15th February 2007

The newest venue in town – or least on the outskirts of Chennai. The place everyone goes for a day of fun – bowling, pool, video games, table tennis, go karting, movies and what not. And the picturesque cricket ground is now part of the fun place that is Mayajaal. The pavilion is dreamy, the turf wicket a good, hard one to play on and the lovely outfield is lush green. Most important is the ambiance for it is far away from the madding crowd and the atmosphere is very much like an English village green. But it has also hosted a number of national level tournaments including women’s and veteran’s cricket events. Former Indian captain Kris Srikkanth has been instrumental in overseeing the preparation of the ground which was inaugurated by another former Indian captain in Kapil Dev. Small in size but large on atmosphere is what the Mayajaal ground, part of the Pentamedia group, is all about. In infrastructure and dressing room and pavilion facilities many players have ranked it next only to Chepauk. The New Zealand team led by Stephen Fleming used the practice facilities for a couple of days on their way to Sri Lanka in 2003 and were highly impressed.
