Player: | WW Hinds |
DateLine: 20th February 2007
An aggressive left-handed batsman who plays in typical carefree Caribbean fashion Wavell Hinds is at home opening the innings though he has also done well going in the middle order. In only his fourth Test he achieved stardom with scores of 165 and 52 against Pakistan at Bridgetown in May 2000. This was at No 3 but promoted to open the innings against Australia at Sydney on the 2000-01 tour Hinds was an instant success scoring 70 and 46 and sharing partnerships of 147 and 98 with Sherwin Campbell. Thereafter he struck up a successful combination with Chris Gayle sharing century opening partnerships against India both at home and away before a slump saw him out of the side for some time. Forcing his way back Hinds peaked with 213 against South Africa at Georgetown in 2005. With his flair for playing strokes Hinds is a natural in ODIs and his right arm medium pacers have got him the odd wicket or two in both forms of the game.
