Tim Ambrose made his Test debut against New Zealand while the team was on tour there in March 2008. He has been drafted into the team on many occasions before this, but always missed a chance due to the presence of Matt Prior, who has been Englandís first choice keeper for the past two seasons.
He has taken 11 catches in his three matches so far, but what has impressed selectors more, is the fact that he batted well in bowler friendly conditions. He scored his maiden ton in the series as well as another half century, notching up an average of 34, quite decent batting down the order.
His First Class average is just a shade better, at 35.96 due to which he has scored 4100 runs in 79 matches, with 180 dismissals to his credit. Now that Matt Prior is out of favour, he is now favourite to keep wickets for the English atleast for the entire coming season.
