Ryan had problems with his Achilles for a little while now and we feel as though its best served for him to go back and get some intensive treatment,” ECB director Hugh Morris said. “Obviously, we’re disappointed he won’t be available for the ODI series along with Graeme Swann, but with the amount of cricket we have coming up in England, we will feel he needs to go back and get treatment with a view to him being ready for the summer.”
Swann has also been ruled out of the limited-overs match to undergo surgery on his right elbow. But England will be thrilled to welcome Andrew Flintoff back to the tour on Tuesday as scheduled, following his recuperation from a hip injury.
