He has not had many big scores against his name but consistency has been his forte. Rajin Saleh can be relied upon to play a pivotal role in the middle order. Technically sound and temperamentally strong he is equally at home combating pace or spin, playing forward or back and in Tests or ODIs. In addition, his off breaks have been fairly useful in the limited overs game. Making his debut in both forms of the game during the 2003-2004 season he had a particularly fruitful first Test when he made 26 and 60 against Pakistan at Karachi. In the second innings he batted almost five hours adding 111 runs for the fourth wicket with Habibul Bashar. At 20 years, 297 days he became the youngest captain in one-day international history when Habibul Bashar was injured just before the Champions Trophy match against South Africa in Birmingham in 2004. He scored 89 in the historic victory over Zimbabwe at Chittagong in early 2005 and with knocks of 67, 33 and 71 came good against the Australians the following year.
