Runako Morton was expelled from the West Indian Academy in July 2001 for not following proper code of conduct. It seemed at that time that his career was over as he would never be considered for national selection again. However, he refused to get bogged down and continued scoring runs for his domestic team Leward Islands in the Busta Cup. In February 2002, he was paid for his hard work as he was called into an injury-plagued West Indian squad as a replacement for Marlon Samuels, and became one of the only few Test cricketers from tiny island of Nevis. But he threw away his opportunity when he pulled out of the ICC Champions Trophy in September 2002, after lying about the death of his grandmother, another blot on his poor code of conduct. There was more to come as he was arrested in January 2004, following a stabbing incident, but in May 2005, he was still given a third chance to rectify his sagging career when he was recalled to the ODI squad to face South Africa. He didn’t get to play a game in that series but against New Zealand in 2005-06, he did get his first chance and he proved his worth with his maiden ODI hundred following it up with another ton against Zimbabwe. But he wrote his way into the record books for all the wrong reasons as he made the slowest duck in ODI history against Australia taking 31 balls.
