Biography: | Best known for his 1902 novel "The Four Feathers". Served with the Manchester Regiment during WW1 and ended the war as a Captain. Transferred to the reservists 1915-17. His military career involved work in naval intelligence and setting up counter-espionage netwroks for the British government. Was offered a knighthood but declined it saying that such honours meant little to a childles man. |
