The fastest bowler in Sri Lanka Lasith Malinga raised quite a few eyebrows when he first appeared on the international scene thanks to his distinctly slinging action. From that round-arm action he generates a lot of pace and this can be disconcerting to batsmen who struggle to pick up the ball’s trajectory. He has a pretty good strike rate and average in both Tests and ODIs and this speaks well of his capabilities for in the shorter version of the game he does not compromise much on pace. But this does not mean that his economy rate has suffered for batsmen continue to find it difficult to pick most of his deliveries. Malinga however has the propensity to bowl wides and no balls, a problem he is in the process of eradicating. He is also taking steps to be more accurate and his development and rising stature as a strike bowler was confirmed when he was the leading wicket taker in the one-day series against England in 2006. He has come a long way in the last couple of years since he made his international debut and bids fair to be Sri Lanka’s main strike bowler among the pacemen for quite a while.
