From the new crop of pace bowlers who have succeeded Walsh and Ambrose Corey Collymore is one of the best. He is not genuinely quick but his accuracy and stamina mark him out as a bowler to whom the captain turns to instinctively when things are not going too well for his side. His success in both forms of the game where he is a vital clog in the West Indian pace machine clearly underlines his forte. Unfortunately Collymore has had more than his share of injuries and consequently has been in and out of the team when under normal circumstances he would be a regular. Commitment and determination however have seen shrug off the injuries and perform in stouthearted fashion on his return. Collymore’s first touch with stardom was when he had a match haul of nine wickets to bowl West Indies to a seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at Kingston in June 2003. This got him both the man of the match and the player of the series awards. Two years later at the same venue he bettered this with 11 for 134 against Pakistan. The following year he was outstanding against India with a bag of 15 wickets in four Tests. He also is a vital clog in ODIs and has a five-wicket haul and a four-wicket haul winning the man of the match award each time while bowling West Indies to victory over Sri Lanka and India respectively within a few months in 2001
