He is one of the best fast bowlers produced by New Zealand, but has been plagued with injuries throughout his career. He made his Test debut against South Africa way back in 2000, and then a year later followed it up with his ODI debut against Zimbabwe. Martin has been in and out of the side, due to injuries and some ordinary performances early on in his career. But he has been able to overcome that patchy form to become one of the strike bowlers in the team. Since then, in 40 Test matches, he has picked up 136 wickets at 32.66 runs apiece. His ODI count is a lot lower though, as he has only played 20 ODIs, and managed to pick just 18 wickets in the limited number of games that he has played. His best performance came against the same team he debuted against. The visiting South Africans, in 2004, were struck with this fast bowler’s fury as he claimed 11 wickets in the first test, and then seven more in the next to bowl his side to a fine victory. However, he is known to be inept at batting and the same is the reason, why he hasn’t played many ODIs.
