GHB Gilbert acted as runner for JL Kettle from 42/9.
While JL Kettle batted with GHB Gilbert as runner he moved out of his crease and G Marshall removed a bail, claiming the ball was not dead. Umpire Marshall (nephew of the Victorian keeper) agreed and ruled the batsman out, but after strong protests from Ward and his team - as well as the loss of half an hour's play while the mater was debated - Kettle was relectantly allowed to continue by the Victorians.
