This match was originally scheduled for 12-14 February, but was rescheduled to avoid playing on 13 February (Ash Wednesday). 12th Men: AL Park (NSW) and R Ryder (Vic) Victoria were given choice of innings as the visiting team. Attendance: 8,000 GHB Gilbert acted as runner for JL Kettle from 42/9. While JL Kettle batted with GHB Gilbert as runner he moved out of his crease and G Marshall removed a bail, claiming the ball was not dead. Umpire Marshall (nephew of the Victorian keeper) agreed and ruled the batsman out, but after strong protests from Ward and his team - as well as the loss of half an hour's play while the mater was debated - Kettle was relectantly allowed to continue by the Victorians.
