Match notes
Batting first Queensland Colts brought up 50 in 54 minutes and 100 in 89 minutes and soon afterwards Cooper left having hit seven fours in a stay of 92 minutes. The 150 came in 142 minutes and 200 in 182 minutes but wickets were falling. Burns held the tail together in a stay of 100 minutes and was last out when the innings concluded after 202 minutes. Josselyn and Parsonage made a brisk opening the former leaving after half an hour. The 50 arrived in 41 minutes and 100 in 86 minutes and soon afterwards a light appeal was upheld at 5.45 p.m., fifteen minutes before the time for stumps.
The pace of Gilbert worried the New South wales batsmen and on the second day he bowled sufficiently well to restrict the run flow. Cummins was not deterred and play a splendid innings in one hour at the crease to give his team a lead. Biggs batted two hours hitting six fours in holding the second Queensland innings together in the face of some quite inspired bowling by Stewart. Late in the day Yeates hit out and was well supported by a more sedate Pizzey as 68 runs were added for the ninth wicket.
The available commentaries do not give the rate of scoring for each fifty runs for the second day of play.
