Heavy rain the day before the match was due to start meant the ground was sodden and despite the efforts of the local officials to get the ground fit for play on the first scheduled day, the umpires were left with no option but to abandon play at 3.30pm
The match began 30 minutes late on the second day with the ground finally being fit for play
An appeal against the light before the Southland batsmen had started their innings was upheld and the players left the field for 50 minutes before the light improved enough but only 3 overs were bowled before play was halted for the day
Rain prevented any play on the third day
