No play took place on July 3 as intended, because of incessant rain. This two-day match was therefore reduced to a one day affair, though but a few minutes more play would probably have caused this interesting annual contest to have reached a termination; unfinished matches losing much of their notoriety. The first innings of Woolwich was a curiosity. The analysis of the third innings was not given. This was the second time the match had come off at Prince's, no day being available at Lord's.
