| Netherlands won the toss and will bowl | |||
| Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the eighteenth match in the 2007 Cricket World Cup and it is the first so-called 'meaningless' game of this exciting tournament as the Netherlands take on Scotland in the Group A battle-of-the-minnows from Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts. | |||
| Neither side can qualify for the Super Eight stage of the tournament, as those places in this group have rather predictably been taken by South Africa and Australia, who play in the eagerly awaited game on Saturday but there will be plenty of pride to be played for today as both of these sides will not want to go home completely empty handed. | |||
| Both the Netherlands and Scotland have been on the receiving end of horrible trouncings at the hands of the ODI big two. Scotland fell by 7 wickets to South Africa with over half the overs to spare while Australia disposed of them by 203 runs in their opening game. The Netherlands will certainly not be forgotten, especially Daan van Bunge who was smashed for six sixes by Herschelle Gibbs in SA's 221 run win while Australia helped themselves to batting practise with a 229-run success. | |||
| Who starts favourites today? The bookies will probably not be offering too varying odds on these two but Scotland have come here as the ICC Trophy winners, having beaten the Netherlands on the way. | |||
| The eighteenth game of the tournament, at Warner Park, is the sixth game to be staged on this impressive new stadium. West Indies win over India opened the ground in May 2006 and, of course, all the Group A games have taken place here. It has certainly proved its worth and will, no doubt, remain an integral part of the West Indies scene in years to come. | |||
| This will be the third time that Scotland have played the Netherlands in ODI history and they have won both games. The first, at Ayr in August 2006 was reduced to 20 overs per side and Scotland came through by 4 wickets with a ball to spare while, in Nairobi at the World Cricket League, a nail-biter gave Scotland a two-run victory as Netherlands were all out for 205 with a ball to spare, chasing Scotland's 207-8. | |||
| Graeme Smith is the new leading run-scorer on this ground, having hit 158 runs in his 2 games to date (average 79.00) while Brad Hogg and Glenn McGrath share the honours of the most wickets with 5 (Hogg average 8.60 and McGrath average 9.40). | |||
| The highest individual score for Netherlands v Scotland is 45 by Billy Stelling at Nairobi in 2006/2007. | |||
| The highest individual score for Scotland v Netherlands is 58 by Fraser Watts at Nairobi in 2006/2007. | |||
| The best bowling performance for Netherlands v Scotland is 2-15 also by Billy Stelling at Ayr in 2006. | |||
| The best bowling performance for Scotland v Netherlands is 3-18 by Ryan Watson at Ayr in 2006. | |||
| Asoka deSilva from Sri Lanka is joined by New Zealander Tony Hill in the middle for this game while Mark Benson is the third umpire and Steve Bucknor the fourth. Javagal Srinath is the match referee. | |||
