This first meeting between the two teams in the Championship resulted in a victory for Worcestershire by 119 runs at 4.10 pm on the second day. For the winners Bird took 11 wickets in the match for 92 runs, including 7 for 34 in the Northumberland first innings. There were 8 fours in Foster's 77 and 2 sixes and 4 fours in Bowley's 54. Simpson's 61 for Northumberland contained 2 sixes and 6 fours.
