Bad weather delayed the start until 3.00 pm on the first day. For the home side, Thompson performed the 'hat-trick' in the Worcestershire second innings, his victims being Arnold, Fereday and Millward. In the Northamptonshire first innings, H E Kingston and Horton added 89 runs for the ninth wicket. It was a new record for the competition and the highest of the season. For Worcestershire, Arnold's 8 wickets for 56 runs in the first Northamptonshire innings was statistically the best innings bowling performance of the season.
