Berkshire won this match by 9 wickets at 4.20 pm on the second day. A feature of the game was a partnership of 201 runs for the ninth wicket in the Berkshire first innings between Chapman and Willett, which was a new record for the competition. It exceeded the 89 put on by H E Kingston and T Horton in the Northamptonshire first innings versus Worcestershire at Northampton in 1896. Chapman's 130 included 17 fours, 6 threes, and 11 twos, whilst Willett's 82 not out contained 1 seven and 7 fours. There were 10 fours in Compton's 91 for Oxfordshire. In the Oxfordshire first innings, Day and A Rogers added 64 runs for the seventh wicket. Brownrigg batted last in the Oxfordshire second innings because he was injured, and did not field in the Berkshire second innings. Oxfordshire arranged only six championship match fixtures during the season and did not qualify for the Championship table.
