This rain-affected opening match of the 1899 Minor Counties Championship was drawn. Rain prevented play before 2.20 pm on the first day and interrupted play on the second. For Northamptonshire, there were 2 fours in H E Kingston's 53, 5 fours in Thompson's 52, and no fours in Colson's 52 not out. White's innings of 104 for Hertfordshire contained 6 fours, 6 threes and 21 twos, and lasted 3 hours. It was his first century for the county in his fifth season for the team.
