Winning this return match by an innings at 4.55 pm on the second day, Surrey 2nd XI completed the double over Northumberland, having also won when the teams met at The Oval in June. For the visitors, Nice's 94 contained 2 sixes and 17 fours, Pretty's 66 included 10 fours, and Thompson's 61 contained 8 fours. In the Surrey innings, Pretty and A Baker put on 103 runs for the first wicket, and Thompson and Nice 58 for the eighth wicket. For the losers, Bell's 125 not out included 18 fours, 3 threes and 10 twos. He had also top-scored for Northumberland with 70 not out in the match at The Oval. In the Northumberland second innings, Bell and Allen
added 86 runs for the eighth wicket. Northumberland's first innings total of 51 was the second lowest of the season. 17 players bowled in the game. All sources listed and Wisden, with the exception of
the Surrey Year Book, give the Northumberland second innings total as 290, and though the Surrey Year Book total of 289 is the only source that enables the runs bowling to add correctly, 290 has been preferred.
[Missing: Extras breakdown; in Northumberland 2nd inns runs bowling 1 short.]
