Durham won this return match by an innings at 5.30 pm on the second day, after Cambridgeshire had followed on 143 runs behind on first innings. The game between the two teams in July at South Shields had been drawn. For the winners, H R Elliot's 165, an innings of 4½ hours, included 1 six, 1 five, 21 fours, 6 threes and 17 twos. He was last out, and his score was the third highest innings of the season. His brother's 80 contained 12 fours and was scored in an hour. In the Durham innings they put on 112 for the second wicket. H R Elliot had a fifth wicket partnership of 106 with Whitwell and a ninth wicket partnership of 50 with Hanbury-Tracy. Hanbury-Tracy's 3 stumpings in the match was equal highest of the season with four others. In the Cambridgeshire first innings, Hayward and Swann-Mason added 54 runs for the seventh wicket.
