Berkshire won this return match by 5 wickets at 6.05 pm on the second day with 25 minutes to spare, after the Oxfordshire declaration had set a victory target of 358 runs in around 3½ hours. The Berkshire second innings total of 359 for 5 wickets declared was a new record fourth innings score, exceeding the 275-6 wickets scored by Norfolk against Hertfordshire at Bishop's Stortford in 1899. When the teams met at Oxford the previous week, Berkshire had also been the winners. For Berkshire, there were 23 fours in G G M Bennett's 154. Watts scored 98 not out which included 15 fours and Barrett 53. In the Berkshire second innings, G G M Bennett and Watts added 151 runs for the third wicket. For Oxfordshire, Long top scored with 174. Marsh scored 108 not out and 50, and Brooks 67. In the Oxfordshire first innings, Marsh and Brooks added 152 runs for the fourth wicket. The match aggregate of 1,166 runs was the highest of the season and a new record for the Championship. It exceeded the 1,049 runs scored in the match between the same teams on the same ground the previous year. Receipts on the first day were a record £3 15s. Cave took no part in the second day of the game after injuring his leg.
