Wiltshire won this close return match by two wickets at 6.20 pm on the second day with 10 minutes to spare, after the Hertfordshire declaration had set the visitors a victory target of 241 runs in 3 hours. The match between the two teams in July at Chippenham
had also been won by Wiltshire. For the winners, there was 1 six, 12 fours and 2 threes in Stevens's 101. Newman's 92 contained 11 fours. In the Wiltshire first innings, Stevens and Butterworth added 104 runs for the seventh wicket. For the losers, White's 86 not out included 1 five and 9 fours, Golding's 86 contained 14 fours and Butcher's 55 included 8 fours. White batted down the order in the Hertfordshire first innings because he had been stung by a wasp near the eye. The 63 overs bowled by Smith were the third most in a match during the season.
[Missing: Umpires; extras breakdown; part fall of wickets; in Wiltshire first innings twos and duration of Stevens's 101.]
