Cornwall won this return match by 7 wickets before lunch on the second day. The match between the two sides at Newport in July had been won by Monmouthshire. For the winners, Humphreys took 12 wickets in the match for 92 runs, including 7 for 39 in the Monmouthshire first innings. No batsman reached fifty, and Silverlock top scored with 44 in the Monmouthshire first innings. Tresawna hurt his back while fielding in the Monmouthshire first innings and batted with a runner. Play on the first day ended early because of bad light, and fog delayed the start on the second day until 12 noon.
