Durham won this return match by 28 runs on the second day. The match between the two sides at Wearmouth in June had also been won by Durham. In their first innings Hendren's 103 included 4 sixes and 10 fours, his first century for the county. Graham, the England Amateur Golf champion, scored 72 including 12 fours. They added 119 for the fourth wicket. In their second innings Turnbull's 53 included 1 six and 9 fours. For Cheshire Turner's 67 in the first innings contained 13 fours and in the second innings there was 1 six and 9 fours in Woods's 62. Turner and Harrison put on 68 for the ninth wicket in Cheshire's first innings and Woods and Buxton put on 77 for the eighth wicket in the second innings.
