This rain-affected match was drawn with Northumberland winning on first innings. On the first day, only two hours and twenty minutes play was possible. A shower during the lunch interval delayed the resumption and after another 25 minutes play heavy rain led to the match being abandoned for the day. For the home side, Meldon scored 144 runs in just 2½ hours with 12 sixes, 7 fours, and 2 threes. Anderson's 58 included 1 six and 5 fours. In the Northumberland innings, the two batsmen put on 136 runs for the first wicket. In the Cheshire second innings Skinner did the hat-trick, his victims being Church, Mason and Turner. For the visitors, Holland's 120 saved his team from defeat. It contained 3 sixes, and 12 fours and was scored in 2¾ hours. In the Cheshire second innings Holland and Fairbank had a partnership of 86 runs for the eighth wicket.
