: Staffordshire won their opening match of the 1914 season by an innings and 34 runs at 11.40 on the second day. In the Staffordshire innings Barnes scored 67 which included 1 six and 8 fours.
He took 6 wickets for 25 runs in the Cheshire first innings but did not bowl in the second. Morgan took 6 wickets for 44 runs in the Cheshire second innings. For Cheshire, the debutant Coomber top scored with 30 and Hope took eight wickets for 48 runs in the Staffordshire innings. The Cheshire first innings lasted an hour and a quarter after which they followed on. In the forty minutes remaining for play on the first day they lost 7 wickets for 97 runs. On the second morning they were all out after ten minutes play during which 10 runs were scored as Sedgwick took the final three wickets.
