When his score reached 23 during his first innings score of 68 (his 39th fifty) against Australia at St.John's, his 39th fifty, Brian Lara completed his 8000 runs in Test Cricket. He is the third West Indian after Gary Sobers and Vivian Richards and 13th in the World to have aggregated 8000 or more runs in Test Cricket.
During his innings of 68, Brian Lara (8045) surpassed the aggregates of Mark Waugh (8029) and Gary Sobers (8032) and is now eleventh in the all-time list of highest run-aggregates.
Lara's feat of reaching 8000 runs in 94 Tests is the second fastest in the history of Test Cricket. Gary Sobers holds the record, having taken only 91 Tests to reach 8000 runs.
