  • This was the 2035th ODI in cricket history.
  • Andrew Nel was making a comeback into South African side after 55 matches. He had last appeared for South Africa against India at East London on 19-10-2001.
  • Mark Boucher, on 8, completed his 2000 runs in ODIs. He became ninth South African and 110th batsman overall to do so.
  • By taking 153 matches to accomplish this feat, Boucher became the second slowest after Pakistan’s Wasim Akram to aggregate 2000 runs in a career. Akram had reached his 2000 runs in 215th match.
  • Boucher also became the first South African and only the fourth ‘keeper in ODI history to complete the allround double of 2000 runs and 200 dismissals. Others to do so are : Australia’s Adam Gilchrist (5228 runs and 281 dismissals in 163 matches), Pakistan’s Moin Khan (2687 runs and 257 dismissals in 182 matches) and Sri Lanka’s Romesh Kaluwitharana (3652 runs and 206 dismissals in 184 matches).
  • The eighth wicket partnership of 71 runs between Jaarsveld and Adams is South Africa’s best for this wicket against England. This beats the previous record stand of 59 between Shaun Pollock and Craig Matthews at Cape Town on 09-01-1996.
  • The wicket of Trescothick was 32nd for Shaun Pollock in 21 matches against England. With this he became the leading wicket-taker for South Africa against England surpassing Allan Donald’s tally of 31 wickets from 14 matches.
  • Andrew Flintoff was winning his sixth Man of the match award.
