Shaun Pollock, playing in his 74th Test, achieved a personal landmark when he claimed Michael Vaughan's wicket in England's first innings at The Oval on Friday and became the second South African after Allan Donald (330 in 72) and the 19th in the world to have taken 300 or more wickets.
Pollock's bowling average of 20.71 is the best amongst the bowlers with 300 or more wickets in Test Cricket. Two West Indians - Malcolm Marshall (20.95) and Curtly Ambrose (20.99) are the next best.
Pollock is now the seventh all-rounder in the history of Test Cricket to have completed 300 or more wickets and aggregated 2000 or more runs, joining Ian Botham (England) Imran Khan (Pakistan), Richard Hadlee (NZ), Kapil Dev (India), Wasim Akram (Pakistan) and Shane Warne (Australia).
